We were invited to celebrate the birthday of Robbie Burns, otherwise known as Burns Night with a group of British ex-pats here in Southern Spain. Everyone was in full evening dress and of course some were resplendent in complete Scottish attire. The menu was traditional including cockaleeky soup, haggis and steak pie. It was a new and enjoyable experience for us and included all the famous toasts and, of course, a piper.

Just got back from London and now I really appreciate being here in Spain. It was great seeing our friends and spending time with Roger's 94 year old mother but everything seems so difficult there. I now know that age is just a state of mind. On our walk along the seafront today we saw a couple of people looking tired and old and heard it was someones birthday. 55 years old!!!I realized how happy and grateful we are to be still "in the game of life" working our business around the world, having adventures and experiencing all that we can. One of my friends said she was too tired to travel like we did! Boy is that sad or what?

Onwards and Upwards to Puerto Rico

It was along flight from Madrid to Miami and then on to San Juan, but we had plenty of time to rest up before all the fun started.

The first evening we were invited to a private dinner for about 40 people, hosted by Michelle and Shane, seen here with us. It was just great to be together again with friends from all over the world.

Everyone was so excited to be together again and also to meet lots of new friends. The dance floor was packed as it always is when we get together.

Our best friends, Karla and Don, came to stay with us and we decided to drive up into the mountains to Ronda, a very old town. Here you can see the incredible view from the balcony of the Parador Hotel.

What would any trip be without an amazing meal. We had lunch at Tragabuche, a very well known restaurant, one of the best in Spain, where we enjoyed a seven course "menu de degustacion" with wine pairing with each course! It was probably the best meal we have ever had - anywhere. I am happy to say the Don generously elected to drive and deny himself the wine, so the rest of us were able to indulge.

Here we are in the town square. As you can see it was a beautiful day, which made it all the more enjoyable.

We leave California for Spain

September 1st. we left our house in Los Angeles, and flew to London and on to Barcelona for a company training day. Then, back to London to visit family for a few days. We started the drive down to Southern Spain by taking the Channel Tunnel over to Calais. It is really quick, only 35 minutes, but feels rather claustrophobic. The first day we drove to Tours and then on through Bordeaux and Cognac into Spain and stayed the second night in a bustling city in Northern Spain, Logrono. Onwards through Spain , we stayed the third night at a magificent Palacio in a tiny place named Mengibar. The room was spacious and comfortable and the whole hotel was gorgeous.We were having a minor challenge with our camera, hence no pictures! Finally on day four we arrived back at our beautiful villa on the Costa del Sol. We are so happy and grateful to be back, and are now once again able to gaze out over the Mediterraneon every day - it is breathtaking.

The Big Island of Hawaii

This was our first visit to the Big island. We have visited Maui and Oahu, but this was really different, no beaches, just volcanic rock. When you fly in it looks almost as if you have landed on the moon. This is the view from our room looking out over the volcanic rock over to the Pacific.
As you can see, life is really tough!

This was a spectacular conference with amazing speakers and lots of fun to be had spending time with hundreds of our best friends. Here are some very excited people rushing in at 7.30 AM, not my usual time for being up and about and excited.

One of our speakers, Erik Wahl, painted these three pictures of Bono, Einstein, and Tiger Woods in 3-4 minutes each on stage in front of us. We learned so much from him and the other speakers. What an opportunity this is!!!

As you can see, this was an elegant affair, but only from the ankles upwards. Most people went barefoot or wore sandals. The food, ambiance and setting were amazing.
Some were quite creative with their attire. Everybody had fun.

Acapulco, Mexico

We flew from Southern Spain to Acapulco Mexico via Los Angeles ( to see some of our children and grandchildren) and as soon as we checked into our room, this was the view from the balcony, and then here's a picture of us showing some of the fabulous landscaping of the extensive grounds.

In the evening we were invited to a VIP party where we had the opportunity of reconnecting with alot of our friends and colleagues from all over the world.

Benahavis

On the way back from Los Angeles to Spain in January, we met Leslie and Burkhardt Weber and their two daughters on the plane. They built and own a boutique hotel and gourmet restaurant called Amanhavis in the gastronomic district of Benahavis here in southern Spain. We decided to drive over for dinner and to stay the night. The hotel is gorgeous, very authentic and rustic with each room designed in an individual way. The village itself consists almost entirely of about 30 restaurants and bars. You can see from the pictures that the courtyard is very pretty and that we had a room with a telescope and a glass domed ceiling to look at the stars. The restaurant was everything it promised to be and dinner was truly an experience with excellent wine from Granada to go with it. It was a magical abundant experience which we intend to repeat very soon.

The Party

Following the event we hosted a party for everyone at our villa. We had a traditional Spanish singer and guitarist, but as you can see from the pictures, it turned into a karaoke session, not surprising considering who was there!!! Now when I look round the villa, I can only see about 100 of our friends and colleagues drinking, eating, dancing and singing. It is such a wonderful memory, a real gift from everyone who was there.

Team Europe Descends on the Costa Del Sol

We organized and hosted a training day and event for Team Europe called Super Saturday...En Fuego for the last Saturday in January. Everyone started arriving during the week and we filled up at least one local hotel with excited colleagues. The weekend started on Friday evening with a dinner for the twelve presenters and leaders who flew in from Australia, the United States and the UK. We took them to our favorite "hole in the wall" restaurant and we all had an absolute blast.

Whilst enjoying a nine month stay in the villa in Southern Spain on the Costa del Sol from September 1st. 2008 until May 31st 2009, we had several good reasons to visit our home in Los Angeles. We really missed our children and grandchildren, and there was a company training day in Los Angeles on January 10th. We stayed for a week and had a great time.

Here we are with two of our daughters and four of our granddaughters. We had such a good time seeing them after so long away.

Return to Spain

After waiting impatiently for four months to return to Spain, this is the view of the pool and the Mediterranean from the living room. It is easy to see why we are excited to be back.
This is the view we have from our master suite balcony. The area on the left is the barbeque and outdoor dining deck built above the garage.
Here it is from a different angle. There is a built in stone and tile table big enough to seat twenty people.

And now a view of the interior, the living and dining rooms. In total the villa has five bedrooms and four bathrooms as well as two large offices on a lower level. We think there is just about enough room for the two of us, but we are anticipating lots of visitors!

The final night galas used to always be "black tie". Now we have "theme" nights. Of course as we were in Hawaii, it had to be a Luau. Here we are dressed up for the occasion. As you can see I am sticking to "black tie"

Conference in Waikiki!

We just came back from spending several days with 1100 of our closest friends and "family" at a company event in Honolulu onWaikiki Beach on the island of Oahu. Above you can see us with some of the other leaders of Team Europe.
On one afternoon, we went to Sam Choy's for lunch and ate Ahi Poke, a well known Hawaian speciality and then went on to the North Shore. Here you can see Suzanne on the beautiful beach.
Here we are with some close friends off to a spectacular gourmet dinner at the best restaurant we have ever experienced, Allan Wong's. We had a seven course tasting menu with matching wines and sake with six of the courses. What a feast for the palette that was.
As you can see we went to and from the restaurant in style. These pictures were actually taken on the way there. We were even happier on the way back!!!

Back Home in Los Angeles

After three wonderful months in Spain, we returned home on April 24th. We have spent the first week settling back into a different routine, We have also enjoyed catching up with all our close friends and our children and grandchildren. We are amazed at how much the grandchildren have grown up in just that short time.

Now we are very busy putting everything in place for our return trip to Spain. The current plan is to go to England to visit family and friends around the middle of August. We are shipping a car over to England and then we will drive it down to Spain, where we have leased a fabulous villa for nine months from September 1st. We are expecting quite a few of our family, friends and business partners to come and stay with us.

What a thrill it is to be able to carry our business back and forth with us, and to choose to focus on expanding into the UK and Europe!

We are including a couple of pictures of the pool and the view of the Mediterraneon and also the villa, to whet everyone's appetite!

Although we were reluctant to leave our villa in Spain, we were so excited to go to Rome for a Company Conference, and the opportunity to spend time with nearly 1000 of our closest friends! It was not our first visit to Rome so we were able to be selective about which of the many monuments and sights to see. Last time it was so hot that we realy did not have the strength to take a tour of the Coliseum, but this time as you can see from the coats we are wearing, we did not have that problem.
It was an enjoyable contrast to switch from eating Spanish style cooking to Italian, which is, of course, wonderful. We were fortunate to have dinner with our keynote speaker, a very special young man , Shawn Achor, who is a Harvard professor at age 30 and teaches the most popular course there on the psychology of happiness. Here we are with him, looking a bit like "munchkins"!
The conference included quite a bit of partying, and here we are at the welcome party ready to have lots of fun.
The final Gala was a toga party instead of the usual black tie event. It was a huge success and everyone let down there hair. As you can see Roger could not quite let go of it not being black tie. Here we are with our good friends from New York, Karen and Ron. Just imagine, we get to spend time all over the world with these and many other friends. How great is it that we made the decision to have this life style?

Lunch in the Mountains

We drove for over an hour up high in the mountains to a restaurant in a quaint building that used to be a prison. There is even a room off one of the dining rooms which is an old cell with a figure of a prisoner inside. Here we are with our youngest daughter, Eli, and her friend Sarah, and Karla and Don.
One of the specialties is roast suckling pig - incredible!!!

As usual, substantial quantities of "vina" were consumed.

El Tintero, Malaga

This is a most unusual restaurant on the beach in Malaga. They serve fresh fish, shell fish and paella among other delicious food, served "dim sum" style. The noise of the servers as they walk around carrying freshly cooked platters of food is deafening as they literally yell out what they have. You just call for the ones you want and "dig" in.
We went with Karla and don and Suzanne's sister Linda and our brother-in-law Roy.
All the plates are stacked up on the table as you finish them and at the end they charge according to the type of plate and the number of them. Lots of fun and noise and absolutely delicious!

A Day Out in Marbella

We went for the day to the playground of the rich and famous, Marbella, here in Southern Spain. Our first port of call was to Puerto Banus. This is where you can really see "abundance". The sheer size and quantity of magnificent yachts was breathtaking.
You can see Suzanne standing by just one or two of the small ones.. The weather was perfect and the cars were incredible, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Bentleys, in fact the Mercedes and Porsches were quite commonplace! All around the port are every upmarket store you could think of and beautiful restaurants, one after another.
Our next stop was in old town Marbella, the ancient district. Here you can see one of many pretty little streets with potted plants all the way along outside the houses.
This is Orange Square in the heart of the old district where the aroma of orange blossom is quite overpowering. We sat here outside and had lunch with the most impeccable service and delicious food.
Of course we had paella, what else?

The Brits go to Ronda

We decided to go up to Ronda which is a very old town high up in the hills above Marbella. It was beautifully sunny but rather cold. Here is Suzanne in front of the fountain in the square.
Ronda boasts one of the oldest and most prestigious bullrings in the world. At this time of the year we were able to explore the whole complex and actually go into the arena. You don't realise how big it is until you stand inside.
There is a museum built into the cloister around the arena and here are two pictures of traditional costumes associated with bull fighting.
As you can see the colors and detail are magnificent.
In the evening we ate at a very old restaurant right opposite the bullring where Orson Welles and Ernest hemingway would eat and either comiserate or celebrate with famous local matadors. The bulls head on the wall compared to Suzanne sitting in the corner gives you some idea of how big the bulls are. All the pictures are of celebrities from Spain famous for bull fighting and flamenco dancing.

The Two Happy Brits in Europe

We arrived in Torre del Mar in the south of Spain on February 2nd. and found that we had rented a fabulous villa with terraces front and back and views to the Mediteraneon at the front and of Velez-Malaga at the back. See the pictures.

It was great to see Suzanne's sister Linda and our brother-in-law Roy who live here.

We have already visited some of the restaurants we have enjoyed on previous visits, but as it is earlier in the year then we have been before, many of the beach bars are not yet open.

Much of the first week has been spent completing mundane tasks such as stocking up the frig and the larder and organizing our office.However we have had the opportunity to have plenty of fun with good food and wine. We have also been able to relax in the large spa!

Even cooking the meat was a riot. Maybe it was the drinking!
The hats don't do much for us, but they came from British Christmas crackers and a good time was had by all.

FUN with Karla Keyser and Don Silver

Wow - what a weekend we just spent with Karla and Don at their home in Napa. It was nostalgic for us as we lived in the Napa Valley for five years until we moved back to Los Angeles seven years ago. We enjoyed three days of terrific conversation, wonderful food, great wines of course, lots of laughs and the opportunity to mastermind with them.

Hard to believe that we only met them for the first time in Sydney, Australia in June this year, got together again for dinner in Las Vegas in August, had an absolute blast with them in Cancun in October, and now here we were as houseguests in their home in November

Our plan is to be in Spain for the whole of February and March next year and then share a villa with them in Tuscany for the whole of April. We are still pressing them to come to Spain for at least some of March! Taking our business to Europe for three months will be an amazing experience and opportunity for us.

As you can see from the pictures, we were treated just like "Visiting Royalty" dining at some of the best restaurants and enjoying a fabulous winemaker's dinner at our favorite winery, Clos du Bois.

We'll be getting together again in Miami in January and we just can't wait!
